Details

On this bike tour you discover Provence and the Camargue - a land of light, colors and scents. Many well-known painters have lived in Provence: Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, Cézanne, etc ...
The Mediterranean climate is so pleasant that people live outside ... and use to play "Pétanque" and drink their "Pastis".

Highlights of this tour include the medieval town of Avignon: the famous Pope’s Palace (UNESCO World Heritage Site), St. Rémy de Provence which has the best conserved Roman monuments, Les Baux de Provence: a medieval hill top village in the Alpilles, and Arles with its numerous Roman and medieval monuments. You will enjoy Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer: a little village between the sea, the sky and the Camargue (nature reserve), and lastly the Pont du Gard: the aqueduct over the Gardon river, the best conserved from the Roman Empire.

Your bike tour in Provence and Camargue:

Day 1: Arrival in Avignon.

Take time to visit Avignon and especially the famous and beautiful Pope’s Palace.

Day 2: Avignon - Arles  |  55 km

Start your first stage riding to the small town of Crau, then cross the orchards up to Saint-Rémy de Provence. Continue to the medieval village Les Baux de Provence offering a beautiful view over the area, before reaching Arles with its numerous Roman monuments.

Day 3: Arles - Saintes-Maries  |  45 km

Still heading south, and ride through the Camargue to the Vaccarès lake. Make a stop for a nice picnic and observe the rare birds living there before joining the Mediterrean beaches and Saintes Maries de la Mer.

Day 4: Saintes-Maries - Saint-Gilles  |  40 km

This shorter bike stage allows you to enjoy the sunny beach or to visit the "Notre Dame de la Mer Sanctuary" offering an amazing view over the Camargue and the sea. Leave Sainte Marie and ride to the west up to Saint Gilles famous for its Romanesque church with crypt.

Day 5: Saint-Gilles - Remoulins or Saint-Hilaire  |  60 km

Leave the Camargue behind and ride on small roads through vineyards and orchards with a wonderful view of the Mont Ventoux. Make a stop to admire the beautiful and amazing Pont du Gard (World Heritage site). Continue to Saint Hilaire.

Day 6: Excursion up to Uzès  |  40 km

Loop excursion on small roads and bike paths passing small villages cycling to Uzès, one of the most wonderful towns in Provence. A real must on this tour! Ride back to your hotel follwing the Gardon river.

Day 7: Remoulins or Saint-Hilaire -  Avignon  |  40 km

This last bike stage will bring you on the roads to Tavel, famous for its rosé wine. So do not hesitate to make a stop in the village to a local wine producer to sample a glass of rosé wine ... before coming back to Avignon.
