Discover the Arcachon Bay by bike! With these excursions, you will be able to visit freely this little piece of heaven. The Dune du Pilat, the higher sand dune in Europe; the Cap Ferret and its oyster villages and the Delta de la Leyre and the birds park.
Take your time to walk around in the oyster ports, taste some seafood. Ride peacefully along the beaches, enjoy the waves for some bathing. Enjoy your holidays at your own rhythm!
Your cycling tour around the Arcachon Bay:
Day 1: Arrival in Arcachon + bike excursion
Use this first day to discover this seaside resort, well-known for the ‘Arcachonaises’, marvelous villas of the 'winter town'. Take a walk on the seaside front promenade or under the shady Mauresque park.
Day 2: An excursion in the region
Set off for a ride and discover the region through one of the excursions available below:
Day 3: Bike excursion and departure during the day
If you are still available for the whole day, this is your last chance to try a final excursion.
Our bike excursion loops around Arcachon:
- Excursion to the Dune du Pilat | 24 km
Leave Arcachon, following the beaches on the bike paths. Cross Le Moulleau, lively village, and keep going slowly until the Dune du Pilat. You will need a little effort to climb this 110m-high dune. But the reward, once up there, is this amazing view on the Landes forest, the Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Go back to Arcachon under the pines’ forest.
- Excursion to Cap Ferret | 32 km
Cross the Bay to go on a Cap Ferret exploration. Follow the great ocean beaches, in the shades of the pines, on the bike paths. Then, reach the inside of the bay and cross the oyster villages. Take your time to discover the oyster culture, chatting with an oyster farmer, and some tasting. Before leaving, climb up the lighthouse: walk up the 258 steps for a 360° vantage point!
- Excursion to Delta de la Leyre | 40 km
Reach the ornithological park of the Teich, passing through quaint oysters’ ports like La Hume and Gujan. This reserve welcomes wild birds, in total liberty, in a naturel and preserved environment. A route enables you to observe these birds from observation hut. Then go back to Arcachon via the pines’ forest.

Boat excursion – Around the Bird Island
The meeting place is on the Arcachon Thiers pier: A boat is taking you to the heart of the bay. This island welcomes a lot of bird species. You will discover the ‘Cabanes tchanquées’, emblematic shadows of the bay. You will follow the oysters’ villages of the Cap Ferret. The boat will lead you through 100 hectares of oysters’ parks. You will go back to Arcachon via the seafront and its villas.
