Your cycling tour in the Loire Valley:

From the nice city of Tours, this cycling trip will lead you through the Vouvray and Montlouis vineyards before riding along the Loire river banks to the château of Chaumont sur Loire and its amazing International Garden Festival … You will also discover the outstanding Loire Valley’s sites such as the chateau de Chenonceau, the Royal city of Amboise and the Renaissance Gardens of Villandry!

Day 1 : Arrival in Tours


Take time to enjoy the old and vibrant quarters of Tours city and especially the “Place Plumereau”, a beautiful square with half-timbered houses. Take a look at the splendid gothic cathedral.

Day 2 : Tours – Amboise | 35 km


For your 1st bike stage, leave Tours by following the Loire River and its « Loire à Vélo » cycling paths. Then ride through the Vouvray vineyards where the famous sparkling white wine is produced, in the silence of the cellars dug into the ‘tuffeau’ stone. Continue to Amboise to discover the royal chateau where the greatest kings of France used to live. A few streets further on, you will admire the Clos Lucé Manor House which is the last home of Leonardo Da Vinci.

Visit on your own of this chateau, which was a residence of the Kings of France from the 15th to the 19th centuries. This remarkable Renaissance chateau dominates the Loire river from its promontory location, providing superb views from the balconies and terraced gardens. Don’t forget to visit the Saint Hubert Chapel which houses the tomb of Leonardo de Vinci!

Day 3 : Amboise – Chenonceaux | 50 km


The « Loire à Vélo » cycling paths will bring you from vineyards to Loire River banks to Chaumont-sur-Loire, whose 15th-century château proudly dominates the town and the river. Don’t miss to visit the extraordinary International Garden Festival! Now you can reach the famous Château de Chenonceau, straddling elegantly the Cher river, and which was the scene of a famous rivalry in French history: that of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici.

Day 4 : Chenonceaux – Azay le Rideau | 55 km


Ride throught the peaceful Touraine countryside to the former Cormery Abbey then the impressive medieval Fortress of Montbazon! Now follow the nice Indre à Vélo paths, punctuated by mills, to reach the village of Azay le Rideau and its romantic château, a Renaissance marvel in a water and greenery setting.

Take your time to discover this estate named “Chateau des dames” where reigns elegance and the French way of life. Renaissance masterpiece with architecture unique in the world straddling the Cher River. Don’t miss to visit the flower gardens which was the scene of a famous rivalry in French History: that of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medicis.

Day 5 : Azay le Rideau – Tours | 35 km


On your last bike stage, you will follow the “Loire à vélo” cycling paths to reach Villandry and its famous ‘French style’ Renaissance gardens. Enjoy the ‘Ornamental kitchen Garden’, the ‘Garden of Love’, the ‘Water Garden’ and the ‘Sun Garden’. Come back to Tours following the Cher river.
