Your bike tour from Bayeux to Caen:

From Bayeux, ride on the small roads in the Normandy countryside. Discover wild landscapes between the Pointe du Hoc and the fine sandy beaches of the “Côte de Nacre”. In addition to the famous Landing Beaches and charming villages like Port-en-Bessin, enjoy riding into the land with the Château of Fontaine-Henry. Caen will charm you with its historic center without forgetting the Caen Memorial Museum.

Day 1 : Arrival in Bayeux

Wander through the narrow streets of Bayeux and admire the stately merchant houses. Visit the cathedral of Notre Dame, a jewel of Romanesque architecture. The town houses one of the most impressive Norman/Romanesque historical treasures: the Bayeux Tapestry.  This long-embroidered linen cloth was stitched in the 11th century to recount the events of the Norman conquest of England in 1066 by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy.

OptionVisit of the Bayeux Tapestry Museum (Included in the "Visit Package")

bayeux museum

This is the most famous Tapestry in the world! You can discover it in 3 times. At the beginning of the visit, listen the audio-guided explanations as watching the Tapestry. Follow the visit in the exhibition room, giving information on the creation and the conservation of the Tapestry. End the visit by watching a movie about England conquest.

Day 2 : Excursion to Omaha Beach | 50 km + option 15 km

The first bike tour takes you to Omaha Beach, often called ‘bloody Omaha’, as this beach suffered the heaviest losses during the landings. At the top of the cliff and dominating the beach, the American cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer, with its rows of headstones all perfectly aligned on a carpet of emerald grass, invite you to reflect and remember. Afterwards follow the coast to the pretty small fishing port of Port-en-Bessin.

If you wish, you can extend this tour by visiting La Pointe de Hoc. Its 30m high cliffs were successfully scaled by the best climbers of the American forces during the landings.

OptionVisit of the Overlord Museum (Included in the "Visit Package")

musée overloard

The museum presents a unique collection of reconnaissance aircrafts, flying bombs, tanks, vehicles and canons, hundreds of personal belongings, posters and documents combats’ witnesses. The 6 armies who took parts into the Normandy battles are represented through full-size scenes, recreated with a breathtaking realism.

Day 3 : Bayeux – Caen | 60 km

You leave the charming medieval town of Bayeux to reach caen and its famous Memorial. The bay of Arromanches with its two cliffs will delight you. Do not miss a ride on the dam. You will then pass in Courseulles-sur-mer with its fishing port. You join Caen by small and quiet roads with a great stop, the castle of Fontaine-Henry. Enjoy your end of the day and your evening to discover the charms of the city of William the Conqueror. The historic center is full of sites to see: ‘Abbaye aux Hommes’ [men] and ‘Abbaye aux Dames’ [women], the ducal castle….

OptionVisit of the Caen Memorial Museum (Included in the "Visit Package")

Memorial Caen

The Caen Memorial Museum is a memorial for Peace! Follow 2 museography displays covering from 1939 to 1989: from the origins of WW2 to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Discover the war on a chronological way, explained, imaged, presenting numerous objects, witnesses from this period, French, but also Russians, Japanese, English, Germans, etc.

Day 4 : Excursion to Ouistreham & "Côte de Nacre" | 50 km

From Caen, you reach the ‘Côte de Nâcre’ by small quiet roads. Then, you ride along the coast between seaside villages, high cliffs and long beaches of fine sand to the port of Ouistreham. The city of Ouistreham presents three commemorative sites dedicated to the history of D-Day: the German Bunker, the Museum of 4th Commando and the Monument of the Flame. Or continue your stage by taking the bike path along the ‘Canal de Caen’. Caen is a charming city with its small port in the city and its historic monuments.
