Your cycling tour from Paris to Mont St Michel:
Cycle through one of the most popular cycling itinerary in France, “The Veloscenic”: from the Cathedral Notre Dame in Paris to the Mont Saint Michel in Normandy!
Along its voies vertes and small marked paths, this itinerary will take you from prestigious castles (Versailles, Rambouillet) to cathedrals and abbeys (Notre Dame, Chartres, Rambouillet, Mont Saint Michel). With its 5 sites classified at the UNESCO, this véloroute passes by lush forests, green valleys and natural parcs of Perche and Normandie-Maine.
Day 1 : Arrival in Paris
Enjoy the highlights of the city of lights: Eiffel Tower, River Seine banks, latin quarter …
Day 2 : Paris – Versailles | 34 km
Leave Paris and the Cathedral Notre Dame by a secure cycling path. Then pedal along the Bièvre Valley to reach the royal city of Versailles and its prestigious castle. Don’t miss the famous « Mirror Gallery » and the gardens by Le Nôtre.
Day 3 : Versailles – Rambouillet | 51 km
Leave the city of Louis XIV towards the Natural Parc of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse. Ride through small picturesque villages full of many treasures: châteaux, museums, old wash houses… End of this stage in Rambouillet and its castle where used to live great lords, emperors and presidents !
Day 4 : Rambouillet – Chartres | 49 km
Ride to Epernon and Maintenon to have a look at the sumptuous château of the housekeeper who had become the secret wife of the king Louis 14th. Then proceed to the nice town of Chartres and its old quarters. Do not miss to admire the stained glass windows of the amazing gothic cathedral which has been inscribed in 1979 on the Unesco World heritage list.
Day 5 : Chartes – Illiers-Combray | 32 km
Ride along the peaceful roads of the this wheat belt to reach the tiny town of Illiers-Combray, where lived the French poet Marcel Proust. Illiers-Combray has not changed so much and has known how to preserve its charm of past times.
Day 6 : Illiers-Combray – Nogent le Rotrou | 42 km
Let’s cycle to the Perche area, a land of woods, meadows and farming. You will discover lots of charming chateaux and manor houses (like the beautiful chateau de Frazé), picturesque villages and churches before reaching Nogent le Rotrou, overlooked by its medieval chateau.
Day 7 : Nogent le Rotrou – Bellême | 38 km or 43 km
Reach the ‘Basse Normandie’ area, a green and hilly land which offers a beautiful cultural heritage among exceptional landscapes. Along the hills, you will ride from old manor-houses to tiny wash-house until Bellême, a very charming medieval village.
Possibility to use the brand new ‘voie verte’ cycling path from Condé sur Huisne.
Day 8 : Bellême – Alençon | 53 km
Go trough the Natural Parc of ‘Perche’, from Huisne vallée et Sarthe valley, via the nice village of La Perrière, before reaching the ‘voie verte’ cycling path in Le Mêle sur Sarthe. Then follow the cycling path peacefully to get in Alençon that shelters the impressive Notre Dame basilica.
Day 9 : Alençon – Bagnoles de l’Orne | 51 km
After cycling the Natural Parc of Normandy, you will get the wonderful Chateau de Carrouges ! This worth of visit chateau built with red bricks and granite acts as a summary of seven centuries of history. Proceed towards Bagnoles de l’Orne, famous spa resort, which will reveal you its authentic French ‘Belle Epoque’ way of life.
Day 10 : Bagnoles de l’Orne – St Hilaire du Harcouët | 62 km
Continue your journey following the ‘voie verte’ cycling path via Mortain, a land of legends and history. Then ride through the apple and pear country, in the heart of the Norman hedge farmlands, until St Hilaire sur Arcouet, a small city settled between the Sélune river and the Airon river.
Day 11 : St Hilaire du Harcouët – Pontorson (Mont-Saint-Michel) | 56 km
A last ride on the peaceful ‘Voie Verte’, towards the Mont St Michel right in front of you! Enjoy this splendid and unforgettable view over the bay, with the salt marshes on the foreground and the ‘Occident Marvel’ which slowly appears on the background.

Wonderful way to see this unique area of France. Each leg brought different scenery and towns.E bikes make it more of a holiday than training exercise! You leave the crowds behind and enjoy the smaller roads and bike pathways through the countryside. Really enjoyed the route. All hosts of accommodations were most welcoming and helpful.
