Your bike tour around the Swiss lakes
This magnificent route offers an unrivalled variety of landscapes. The loop starts at Lake Constance and takes you to the Rhine Falls, through the mountains and on to the Zurich region, the Principality of Liechtenstein and Lake Wallenstadt, which you cross by boat. One panorama follows another on this cycling route, which is certainly one of the most beautiful in Switzerland.

Day 1Arrival in Constance
Check-in at your hotel. Then enjoy the old town of Constance.
Day 2Constance – Schaffhausen | 50 km
Along the Lower Lake, you leave Constance and arrive in Stein-am-Rhein, with its frescoed facades. You alternate between Germany and Switzerland as far as Schaffhausen.
Day 3Schaffhausen – Zurich | 70 km
Discover the charming town of Schaffhausen before heading off to the Rhine Falls, which you can get very close to by boat. Continue along the Glatt valley to Zurich, Switzerland’s fascinating cosmopolitan city. A blend of tradition and modernity, the city invites you to discover its well-preserved historic quarter.
Day 4Zurich – Lachen | 45 km
Cycle along the “golden coast”, the northern shore of Lake Zurich, to Rapperswil. Stop here to visit the town’s landmark, the castle, which offers a superb view of Lake Zurich and the surrounding region. Then cross the lake to the small town of Lachen.
Day 5Lachen – Vaduz | 60 km + boat
Set off in the direction of the Linth Canal, the artificial link between Lake Zurich and Lake Walenstadt, built in the early 19th century to prevent heavy flooding of the Linth and its tributaries. In Weesen, you board the boat that takes you to Walenstadt. Enjoy a swim before reaching the Rhine valley and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Day 6Vaduz – St Gall | 55 km + train
Today you’ll travel along the Rhine for a few kilometers before boarding the cogwheel train to Gais. Then, amidst Switzerland’s iconic landscapes, you reach St. Gallen and its famous bookshop. This is the largest historical bookshop in the world, with over 160,000 books.
Day 7St Gall – Constance | 45 km
Enjoy a beautiful descent to the lake this morning. You’ll pass through Romanshorn, the largest Swiss port on Lake Constance. The cycle path takes you through pretty villages and along the lake shore towards Constance, passing through the apple-growing canton of Thurgau.
Once you’ve reached your destination, enjoy the town and its many points of interest.

Pratical information
- Rental bikes are available at the office of our bike rental company in Constance.
- At the end of your tour, leave your rental bike at your hotel.
We will then take care of returning it to you.
Your route
The stages are a little hilly (especially in the Appenzeller region), with a maximum positive difference in altitude of 800m.
You’ll be riding mainly on cycle paths. You’ll need to be in good physical condition to enjoy this tour.
How to get to Constance
By car:
Constance parking lots: public or private, cost €10-20/vehicle/day.
Possibility of parking in our partner agency’s parking lot – to be booked when you register (see “Options” tab).
By train :
Konstanz train station.
