Your bike tour in Provence and Camargue:

On this bike tour you discover Provence and the Camargue – a land of light, colors and scents. Many well-known painters have lived in Provence: Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, Cézanne, etc …
The Mediterranean climate is so pleasant that people live outside … and use to play “Pétanque” and drink their “Pastis”.

Highlights of this tour include the medieval town of Avignon: the famous Pope’s Palace (UNESCO World Heritage Site), St. Rémy de Provence which has the best conserved Roman monuments, Les Baux de Provence: a medieval hill top village in the Alpilles, and Arles with its numerous Roman and medieval monuments. You will enjoy Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer: a little village between the sea, the sky and the Camargue (nature reserve), and lastly the Pont du Gard: the aqueduct over the Gardon river, the best conserved from the Roman Empire.

Day 1 : Arrival in Avignon

Arrive early to have time to visit Avignon and especially the famous Palais des Papes! With its imposing ramparts and cobbled streets, Avignon instantly transports you back in time. Theatres, museums and art galleries sit alongside trendy bars and modern restaurants, giving Avignon a unique blend of ancient and modern.

Day 2 : Avignon – Arles | 47 km

Cross the orchards up to Saint-Rémy de Provence. It takes a little effort to reach the village of Les Baux de Provence, also classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, which overlooks exceptional landscapes. The descent from Les Baux on small country roads will take you to Arles, where the rich cultural heritage and many attractions from Roman times seem to invite you to take an evening stroll.

Day 3 : Arles – Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer | 37 km

Still heading south, and ride through the Camargue to the Vaccarès lake. Make a stop for a nice picnic and observe the rare birds living there before joining Saintes Maries de la Mer and the Mediterrean beaches.

Day 4 : Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer – Saint-Gilles | 38 km

Enjoy a morning swim in the Mediterranean Sea or visit the “Notre Dame de la Mer Sanctuary” offering an amazing view over the Camargue and the sea. Leave Sainte Marie and ride to the west up to Saint Gilles famous for its Romanesque church with crypt.

Day 5 : Saint-Gilles – Remoulins | 43 km

Leave the Camargue behind and ride on small roads through vineyards and orchards with a wonderful view of the Mont Ventoux. Make a stop to admire the beautiful and amazing Pont du Gard (World Heritage site).

Day 6 : Excursion to Uzès | 39 km

Head for Uzès, one of Provence’s most beautiful villages. Visit its beautiful cathedral and stroll through its picturesque streets. On the way back, the banks of the Gardon river offer plenty of opportunities for a refreshing swim.

Day 7 : Remoulins – Avignon | 46 km

This bike stage brings you on the roads to Tavel, famous for its rosé wine. So do not hesitate to make a stop in the village to a local wine producer to sample a glass of rosé wine … before coming back to Avignon.
Departure at the end of the stage.

Possibility to plan an extra night in Avignon.
