Tour highlights
- Bike paths and ‘Voies Vertes’ to bike safely
- The perfect itinerary to discover Burgundy and its wines in a week
- Two nights in each city to enjoy a bit more
Day 1Arrival in Dijon
Enter in the city of the Dukes of Burgundy. Walk around in the historic city, filled with its built heritage: old houses with timber frames, “hotels particuliers” sometimes with glazed tiles roofs, so typical of Burgundy. And the Ducal palace which from now on is home to the Fine Arts Museum, and many more architectural interests.
Day 2Dijon – Beaune | 49 km
With this first itinerant stage you will enter the splendid landscapes of the ‘Côtes de Nuits’: vineyards for as far as the eye can see, typical Burgundian villages, little castles made in ocre stones. Famous vineyards of Burgundy will slowly parade before your eyes, while you will have to follow the bicycle paths: Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges…
Visit the castle of le Clos du Vougeot (cloister, the former fermenting room, cellars, inside rooms, Benaton’s carrier). You will discover the castle thanks to a new system of touch-sensitive screens set all over the area. They give all the necessary information to understand this amazing place.
Free audio-guided tour of the Hospices de Beaune. Built in the 15th century to house and care for the poor of Burgundy, this large hospital is a jewel of the civil architecture of the time. You will be amazed by the glazed tiled roofs that have become the symbol of Burgundy.
Day 3Excursion 'Côte de Beaune' | 57 km
We invite you to leave the bicycle path for one stage, at the heart of Burgundy, you will follow the small country roads which will lead you off the beaten track. Then you will be right uphill in the ‘Côtes de Beaune’. The Castle of Rochepot is a must-see, you will be privileged, with a breathtaking view on the Valley. Follow then to Nolay and reach Beaune between bicycle paths and little roads.
Follow the ‘decouvertes tour’ and the playful and interactive scenography of the mustard’ history; we propose to watch short movies, to make your own mustard, and to taste some ‘amuse-bouches’ and mustards. You will know everything about the last independent mustard factory in Burgundy.
Day 4Beaune – Chalon via the 'Green Way' | 47 km
From Beaune, follow the “Greenway” in the midst of the Côtes de Beaune: Pommard, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet are the famous vineyards that you will cross. One thing appears obvious, you need to visit at least one of these villages! After Chagny, change of scenery: ride along the Canal du Centre that leads you to Chalon.
Walk around the cellars of the domain of Chassagne-Montrachet; then, we propose a commented tasting of five great wines of the family Picard’s domain’s, to discover the Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin’s terroir.
Day 5Excursion to Mercurey | 48 km
Go back up the Canal du Centre on the bike path so you can reach the charming village of Rully and its vineyards. Follow the vines through the famous village of Mercurey, and ride across in the middle of the Côtes Chalonnaises to the small town of Givry. And head toward Chalon using the bicycle trail.
Enjoy a tasting of 4 or 5 wines including 2 Premier Cru accompanied with ‘gougère’, in an elegant Italian-influenced family castle, built at the beginning of the 18th century.
