Your cycling tour in Burgundy along the greenway:
From North to South, an exceptional circuit with cycling paths that facilitate your journey !
This itinerary offers a concentration of Southern Burgundy charm : Romanesque art is present in each village, chateaux are witnesses to the passing of time and prestigious vineyards are following you all along the way.
Day 1 : Arrival in Dijon
Welcome to the Capital of Burgundy! Walk around in the medieval streets, have a drink on a café terrace on Place du Bareuzei to taste a Kir with blackcurrant cream. You will be amazed by the numerous old buildings all over the city: Medieval houses, private mansions, imposing town house, places, parks and gardens.
Day 2 : Dijon – Beaune | 45 km
This first bike stage leads you to Beaune, toward the most amazing part of the Burgundy vineyards: the “Côte de Nuits”. You will cross these great names well-known all over the world: Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée, and the most expensive wine of Burgundy: Romanée Conti. Don’t miss the visit of the exceptional castle of Clos Vougeot.

Follow the ‘decouvertes tour’ and the playful and interactive scenography of the mustard’ history; we propose to watch short movies, to make your own mustard, and to taste some ‘amuse-bouches’ and mustards. You will know everything about the last independent mustard factory in Burgundy.

Bénédicte Manière – Clos de Vougeot
Visit the castle of le Clos du Vougeot (cloister, the former fermenting room, cellars, inside rooms, Benaton’s carrier). You will discover the castle thanks to a new system of touch-sensitive screens set all over the area. They give all the necessary information to understand this amazing place.
Day 3 : Beaune – Chalon-sur-Saône | 45 km + option ‘Nolay’ 20 km
Ride in the middle of the “Côte de Beaune” vineyards, as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Pommard, following the green way. It will lead you thought the vines in this beautiful Burgundian countryside, to Chalon-sur-Saône. We suggest a nice detour in the direction of ‘le château de la Rochepot’, wonderful Medieval fortress, with glazed roof tiles, as well as the typical and charming village of Nolay surrounded by the ‘Hautes Côtes de Beaune’ vineyards.

chât. de Chassagne-Montrachet
Visit the domain of Chassagne-Montrachet, its prestigious cellars dated back to 11th and 14th centuries and discover the Picard’s family savoir-faire and the wine-making process method. We also propose a commented tasting of five great wines of the family Picard’s domain’s, to discover the Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin’s terroir.
Day 4 : Chalon-sur-Saône – Cluny | 50 km
Admire the beautiful landscapes of Southern Burgundy. Among the treasures: the chateau de Cormatin and its gardens, unique in France for its exceptionally well-preserved interiors from the reign of Louis 13th (1628). Then you arrive in the beautiful town of Cluny, well known for the vestiges of its Romanesque Abbey founded in 910!

OT Cluny
Discover the Chateau of Cormatin thanks to the guided visit of the 17th apartments, the main stairs, the 1900’s library and the kitchen. Keep going on your own with a walk in the gardens (flowerbeds, labyrinth, copse, the green theater, Lamartine’s walk, vegetable garden).
Day 5 : Cluny – Mâcon | 30 km + option ‘Vineyards & Pierreclos’ 20 km
This last stage will bring you to Berzé-le-Chatel and its mediaeval chateau overlooking the vineyards and the beautiful landscapes that the French poet Lamartine used to admire. Possibility to leave the “Voie Verte” to ride along the small country roads to enter in the heart of Burgundy, riding through charming villages, the ‘chateau de Pierreclos’, and the amazing point of view from ‘La Roche de Solutré’. Keep going to Mâcon following the green way.

Visit the Abbey of Cluny, former headquarters of the West biggest medieval monastic order: You will discover numerous monastic buildings and vestige of the main church partly destroyed during the French Revolution. You will be amazed by this place grandeur and will easily imagine the greatness of the abbey of the 10th century.

Château de Pierreclos
Visit the medieval château de Pierreclos: Roman chapel, arms’ room, kitchen, bakery, donjon, cellars. Then you will taste some domain of Pierreclos’ wines at the chateau’s shop.
