A wonderful journey in the heart of a region with an incomparable cultural and historical heritage!
From Bergerac to Sarlat, cross the Black Périgord by bike, guided by the Vézère and Dordogne rivers and the “most beautiful villages of France” all along the route – such as Limeuil, St Léon sur Vézère and La Roque Gageac. In a few pedal strokes, the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies as well as the fortresses of Castelnaud, Beynac or Fénelon make you travel through time and history! And what’s more enjoyable than a ‘Foie Gras’ tasting in the medieval streets of Sarlat.

Tour highlights

  • The village of Limeuil and its unique panorama on the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers
  • Spend 2 nights in Sarlat to enjoy its medieval atmosphere
  • Admire the “5 castles valley” and the Dordogne river from the Beynac “castel”

Day 1 Arrival in Bergerac

City of art & history settled on the Dordogne river banks, Bergerac is a beautiful city with a maze of streets and squares. Enjoy the Renaissance city center.

Day 2 Bergerac – Les Eyzies | 60 km

For your first bike stage, leave Bergerac to follow the meandering Dordogne river up to the beautiful and picturesque village of Limeuil. At the confluence of the Dordogne and the Vézère rivers, this medieval village offers an ideal swimming or canoe spot in an outstanding natural environment. Continue to Les Eyzies, a amazing village built on a cliff and capital of Pre-History!

Day 3Les Eyzies – Sarlat | 23 km or 53 km

On the long version of this stage, from Les Eyzies, you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes until Montignac in order to the well known Lascaux grottos which are one of the most important prehistoric sites thanks to their numerous prehistorical paintings and caves.
Ride to the famous medieval town of Sarlat. This city with its cobbled streets, old roofs, and warm stone walls give an exceptional heritage. Sarlat is also well known by gourmets for its delicious local products (such as ducks ‘foie gras’ and truffles). Enjoy its market where you can smell, taste and discover all these treasures.

Day 4Excursion to La Roque Gageac and Beynac | 40 km

For your last excursion, head for sumptuous panoramas punctuated by many castles and bastides. After the village of Domme offering a breathtaking view of the Valley, continue to La Roque Gageac, a beautiful former shipping port settled against the cliff. And finally, Beynac and its impressive castle, perched on his eagle’s nest, offering a breathtaking view of the “valley of 5 castles” awaits you. Back to Sarlat to enjoy the city.
Departure at the end of the stage.

Possibility to book an extra night in Sarlat.
