Your bike tour in Provence and Lubéron

On this bike tour you discover Provence and the Luberon. Highlights of this tour include the medieval town of Avignon: the famous Pope’s Palace (World Heritage Site), Orange which has the best kept Roman monuments such as the theatre and the triumphal arch, Vaison-la-Romaine: divided between a roman city and a medieval town on the hill. You’ll cross the famous vineyards of the Cotes du Rhone, the lavender fields when you approach the Lubéron – well known by Peter Mayle – with stay in the lovely town of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Beautiful landscapes await you such as Fontaine de Vaucluse supposedly the deepest river resurgence in the world. You will also enjoy Gordes : a typical little village in Provence, Sénanque: the best conserved Cistercian abbey in Europe surrounded by lavender fields and lastly Roussillon: known for its splendid ochre rocks. An unforgettable fragrant, colourful and flavoured experience is waiting for you!

Day 1 : Arrival in Avignon

Take time to visit Avignon and especially the famous and beautiful Pope’s Palace. Your hotel is located on the Isle of Barthelasse, in very quiet area (with swimming-pool), approx. 5 km / 3 miles from Avignon Centre.

Day 2 : Avignon – Orange | 35 km

Your welcome meeting is at 9:30am at the hotel reception. Then you will cycle across the biggest island in the Rhone through flourishing orchards to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Make wine tasting here and ride on to Orange where the Roman theatre and the triumphal arch are worth to be seen.

Day 3 : Orange - Vaison-la-Romaine | 40 km

Today you ride through the vineyards of the Cotes du Rhone and pass typical villages like Sérignan, St. Cécile les Vignes, St. Roman de Malegarde and Villedieu before you arrive in Vaison-la-Romaine, a lovely Roman and medieval town.

Day 4 : Vaison la Romaine - Isle-sur-Sorgue | 55 km (or 75km if you booked option Mont Ventoux )

Continue your ride along the ‘Cotes du Rhone’ vineyards and pass wine villages like Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Sarrians. Finally you arrive in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the Venice of Provence, so called because of the numerous little canals running through the town.

Option : possibility to take you and your bike from Vaison la Romaine to the top of the Mont Ventoux (1909 m). So then you ride through lavender fields aroud Sault!
Supplement: +300 €/drive (no reservation needed, to pay locally in cash).
Only possible from mid-May to mid-September and depending on weather conditions.

Day 5 : Isle-sur-Sorgue – Luberon – Isle-sur-Sorgue | approx. 15-40 km

This region is too beautiful to leave so quickly. So you’ll stay a second night in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and explore the lovely Luberon Valley today. Some highlights await you: The village of Gordes, the Cistercian abbey of Sénanque and the ochre rocks of Roussillon which have given Provence its colors.

Day 6 : Isle-sur-Sorgue – Avignon | 40 km

On little roads and along the Rhone River you cycle back to Avignon where you can visit the historical center and the Pope’s palace before getting back to your hotel on the Île de la Barthelasse.

Day 7 : Departure during the day

The lavender fields generally bloom from the beginning of June to the end of July and are mostly around the village Sault (if you choose the option to bike down Mont Ventoux, you will pass there).
