Your cycling tour in the Loire Valley:

Let’s ride the « Loire à Vélo »cycling paths for the week-end. From
Tours to Saumur you will discover the delightful châteaux and Renaissance gardens on the Loire Valley: Azay le Rideau et Villandry. Between Loire and Vienne rivers where traditional boats are sailing, you will cycle through Chinon and Saumur vineyards and cross medieval-looking villages.

Day 1 : Arrival in Tours in the morning | Tours – Azay le Rideau | 36 km

For your first bike stage, leave Tours town center following the “Loire à Vélo” cycling paths towards the famous French classical gardens of Villandry, then Azay le Rideau with its romantic château, a Renaissance marvel in a water and greenery setting.

OptionVisit of the Gardens of Villandry (Included in the "Châteaux Package")

chat. Villandry

Visit on your own of the famous « French style » Renaissance gardens. The richness of the gardens at Villandry comes from their diversity, which is unique in Europe: a perfect harmony between the immense, decorative kitchen garden, and an ornamental garden based on the theme of ‘love’, water and music gardens, etc.

Day 2 : Azay le Rideau – Chinon | 39 km

Discover other marvels, such as the Château de Langeais, in its 15th-century splendour, the Château d’Ussé, which inspired Perrault to write his “Sleeping Beauty”, and the mediaeval town of Chinon dominated by its castle and famous for its red wine, highly appreciated by Rabelais.

OptionVisit of the Chateau of Azay-le-Rideau (Included in the "Châteaux Package")

Léonard de Serres

Free visit of this chateau, which is a real jewel of the Loire Valley. Built during the reign of the French King, François 1st, today it is considered a model of French Renaissance architecture. Its exceptional location, on an island in the middle of the River Indre, gives it a pleasant, romantic atmosphere.

Day 3 : Chinon – Saumur | 36 km (+ option 12 km)

Follow the “Loire à Vélo” routes which will lead you to the village of Candes-Saint-Martin (where you can visit the magnificent 12th and 13th century collegiate church) and to the beautiful village of Montsoreau. Continue along troglodyte sites and vineyards before reaching Saumur overshadowed by its imposing château.
You have the opportunity to reach Fontevraud abbey, Europe’s largest remaining monastic complex which is also the Necropolis of the Plantagenêt kings!
Departure at the end of the stage. Leave the bikes in Saumur.

You can take the train to Tours if needed.
Possibility to book an extra night in Saumur.

OptionVisit of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud (Included in the "Châteaux Package")

Sylvain Brajeul

Free visit of this imposing and vast abbey, founded in 1099. It houses the recumbent tomb effigies of the Plantagenet dynasty, including Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lionheart! This masterpiece of Romanesque art has other discoveries in store, such as the cloisters and gardens, or the chapter house.

The little extra with Biking France:

  • Private return transfer from Saumur to Tours – optional.
  • Our “Châteaux Package” – with entrance fees to

. Villandry Gardens (visit of the gardens)
. château d’Azay-le-Rideau
. Fontevraud Royal Abbey

" Great experience "

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Randovelo. It is amazing to ride through a small renaissance era town, turn right and go through several km of beautiful vineyards, and then see an chateau out of fantasy visible above the distant forest trees. Not to mention riding along several picturesque rivers with amazing flora and fauna.

" A very memorable experience "

We really enjoyed our 3 days cycling in the Loire Valley. The scenery was beautiful and cycling was a wonderful way to experience the French countryside. Organising the experience was very easy and the instructions for the initial and final meeting places were clear. We were very happy with our e-bikes, which made the experience so much more enjoyable – especially going up the hills! We also liked being independent and travelling without a guide. We could decide when we wanted to start our day without the hassle of being somewhere at a particular time. The detailed directions for each day were excellent, although we did have to backtrack a couple of times due to our own inability to interpret them! This only added to the fun we experienced on the ride. The cycling paths were fantastic – very safe and easy to ride on. Overall this was a very memorable experience for us and we will be looking forward to perhaps booking another ride with Rando Vélo in the future.

" A very professional company "

We appreciated helpful emails in good English. The bikes were good. Helmets for the children were also provided. The company provided a folder of complete instructions, which was very re-assuring for a novice like me. We had no difficulty finding our way. We were a family group of adults in 30’s and 60’s with 3 children under 5, so we included 3 kidseats plus a trolley which fitted 2.”

" Thank you for a great holiday experience. "

I spent a marvellous 3 days cycling in the Loire from Tours to Saumur. Rando Velo was very helpful when I was booking. The hotels were very good for 3 star standard and there was absolutely no problem with luggage transfers. I was very happy with the service and the ride route .I will certainly recommend Rando Velo to any friends who are considering Velo a Loire.

" Un tout grand merci. "
