Your cycling tour in the Loire Valley:

Discover the northern part of the royal valley by riding along the majestic river from Orléans to Tours where thousand treasures are waiting for you :historical heritage with numerous chateaux, wonderful landscapes of different natural areas, regional gastronomy delights.

Day 1 : Arrival in Orléans

Discover Orléans, the nice city settled on the Loire river banks which was delivered from the English yoke by Joan of Arc.  Do not miss to visit the imposing cathedral dominating the city.

Day 2 : Orléans – Beaugency | 26 km

Ride along the « Loire à Vélo » cycling tracks and follow the wild river banks up to the nice chateau de Meung-sur-Loire, then to the flower-filled city of Beaugency overlooked by its 11th century dungeon.

OptionVisit of Château of Meung-sur-Loire (Included in the "Châteaux Package")
chateau meung sur loire

Free visit of this chateau which has two faces: a mediaeval facade and a classic style facade. It is one of the oldest chateaus in the French department of the Loiret and hosted many famous names in French history, like François 1st or Louis XI. It also served as a prison… so don’t miss the dungeons and the torture chamber!

Day 3 : Beaugency – Blois | 45 km

Leaving Beaugency and the loire river, discover the Sologne area and of course Chambord, a masterpiece of the French Renaissance period. Continue following the cycling paths in the direction of Blois which presents a rich historical heritage with the château, a perfect illustration of how French architecture evolved between the Middle Ages and the 17th century.

The castle’s chapel shelters Leonardo Da Vinci’s tomb, and a few streets further on, you can see the last residence of this genius : The Clos Lucé Manor house.

" Wonderful "

We loved our Orleans -Tours self-guided biking trip and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes the freedom of exploring the Loire region without being in a large group. The bikes were very comfortable and we had no mechanical issues. The accommodation, by and large, was charming and well-situated in each town. Our luggage was transferred each day to the next hotel efficiently and the excellent organisation meant that we were free to just ride and enjoy our journey without time constraints. We would definitely use Rando-Velo again for another part of France. Thoroughly recommended if you want an up-close and authentic experience of French people, French villages and countryside.
