Day 1 : Arrival in Passau, then sail to Engelhartszell
Boarding is between 4 and 5 pm. The boat sets sail around 7pm for a first dinner on board and an evening cruise to Engelhartszell.
Day 2 : Engelhartszell - Aschach| 40 km by bike + navigation to Linz
In Engelhartszell, sample the Trappist monastery’s very special liqueurs. They are said to have “miraculous healing powers”. Further downstream, the path takes you through pretty villages in the midst of unspoilt nature. Take the small ferry across the famous Schlögen loop, where the river makes a sharp 180-degree turn (approx. €6 per person). Sailing from Brandstatt to Linz.
Day 3 : Mauthausen - Grein | 36-40 km
Early morning sailing from Linz to Mauthausen. Visit the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial. Then cycle to the Celtic town of Mitterkirchen. The route continues through the fertile Machland region. The day ends in the pretty Baroque town of Grein, with its Greinburg Castle (closed on Mondays).
Day 4 : Grein - Melk | 50 km then sailing to Tulln
A wide variety of landscapes will mark your day today. First, there’s Strudengau, a narrow point on the Danube once feared by sailors who had to fight against the currents. From Persenbeug, the valley widens, taking you on to Melk with its magnificent Baroque Benedictine monastery. Climb back on the boat and enjoy the sunset and evening light over the Wachau from the deck. By night, you’ll sail to Tulln, famous for its many market gardens.
Day 5 : Tulln - Vienna-Nussdorf / Korneuburg | 36 km
Klosterneuburg Abbey is nestled in a sumptuous landscape just before you reach Vienna. After a stroll through the vineyards, admire the panoramic view of Vienna from the Kahlenberg observation deck. Return to Vienna for the night.
Day 6 : Free day to discover Vienna
Today’s program includes the countless sights of the Danube metropolis: St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Hofburg Palace and the magnificent Ringstrasse, home to the Burgtheater, State Opera and City Hall. The possibilities are endless. But don’t forget to take time out for a stroll, or to sample a speciality in one of Vienna’s famous cafés. At night, your boat will sail to Dürnstein or Rossatz in the Wachau Valley.
Day 7 : Wachau - Pöchlarn| 40-49 km then sailing to Passau
Let yourself be enchanted by the gentle, undulating landscape, dreamy villages, vineyard terraces, castles, monasteries and ruins. The blue tower of the Dürnstein collegiate church is a symbol of the Wachau. Before boarding, take a last look at the impressive Melk Abbey, one of Austria’s most important Baroque buildings. In the evening, enjoy a solemn farewell dinner. Sail to Passau by night.
Day 8 : Departure during the day
Arrival in Passau in the morning, and disembarkation around 11:30 am.
